These are the D40 settings I like. Pick the ones that work for you. Normal for most uses, Portrait for portraits and vivids for outdoor scenes. A or Fluorescent when indoors under fluorescent light and no flash. CSM/setup Menu. Full (Simple will work fine but will reduce some of your menu options) 200 outside, 400 with flash, 400-800 outdoor Canon has a great choice of RF portrait lenses, too, and we love the Canon RF 85mm f/1.2L USM. It's a hefty lens with a hefty price tag, but camera-lens portrait combinations don't come better than this. You can also adapt Canon's vast range of EF-mount DSLR lenses, too. I had encountered AF issues with the Sigma 18-35, but could fix them with a lens focus tool and the USB dock. The 50-100 worked out-of-the-box. Outer AF points appear to be less an issue for longer focal lengths. Set the lens and camera to autofocus mode. On the camera, set the Focus-mode selector switch to AF. On your lens, the setting is usually marked A or AF. Set the Focus mode to AF-S and set the AF-area mode to Single Point. To adjust the Focus mode, press the AF-area mode button while rotating the Main command dial. Nikon D3200 Best Image Quality Settings for Portrait Photography. Mode Aperture Priority (A on the mode dial) With a Max Sensitivity of 3200 and a Min Shutter Speed of 1/125. The aperture is set to f/2.8 and the ISO is set to Auto. AF-S is the default focus mode. Single-Point AF is selected as the AF-Area mode.
