In most cases, the Audi TFSI engine has proved reliable but, as with all engines, correct and timely maintenance is the key to longevity. Pre-2012 TFSI engines may have higher-than-average oil consumption, which could be nothing to worry about but in some cases signifies that the piston rings in the engine may be worn.

The TSI is a newer design and of course, the more robust engine. It is the result of several years of finding issues with the FSI and correcting them. With that said, I just bought a car with 133k on the FSI motor. Nearly all of the issues inherent to FSI's have recall's available. Audi's press release says: "As we have stated previously, a low percentage of older 2.0 TFSI engines fitted to certain models have been exceeding the factory oil consumption tolerance of 0.5 The TT petrol range is made up of 2.0 TFSI units in a range of outputs. The entry-level engine is a 197hp offering – badged 40 TFSI – with a useful 320Nm of torque that helps this version get from 0-62mph in 6.6 seconds, and uses a seven-speed S Tronic dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
